Mikhail collapses while fleeing from his pursuers in the snowy coniferous forest (taiga) and is taken in by Olga, a female hunter. Mikhail, a former baker who is unable to return to town due to circumstances, and Olga and Mikhail's interests coincide, leading to a contract marriage. As a husband, he protects the home and cooks every day while living in a village of hunters who make a living from hunting. The couple's daily life continues as they enjoy the bounty of nature.
